On February 2, 2010 Google announced a new Nexus One OTA Update that promised several exciting things for those who own their new super phone. One of the most awaited and hoped for features is a type of multi-touch function for the Nexus One. With the advent of this new over-the-air update announcement this feature has finally been properly implemented as well as the addition of a few other interesting features. The various online forums have been abuzz with the news and with good cause.

What's New With the Nexus One?

The multi-touch feature has been added to the browser, the gallery, and the map function. This allows for much easier access and intuitive usage of these features and has been a point of contention with many individuals that have wanted to buy a Nexus One mobile phone. With this feature available now the naysayers may finally decide to purchase it.

3G connectivity has been an issue ever since the phone's release due to lost calls, and other similar issues. Google had continually stated that it was problems with T-Mobile's service but there are many individuals that disagreed or thought Google was being outright deceptive. Despite Google's assertion that T-Mobile's service was to blame they have added a fix that allows much greater 3G connectivity capacity with the new Nexus One OTA Update.

In the recent update Google added in the application "Google Goggles" thus granting the Nexus One the ability to search the web for information about locations viewed via the built-in camera on the cell phone. An action as simple as taking a picture can lead the owner of this device to a plethora of widely available information about the item in question. If it is a building, then some historical information might arise. If the image is a street there may be historical information, or a local map, even a warning about traffic conditions up-ahead if the right websites and information channels are accessed. The information that can be achieved through this method will vary based on the location, but it shows great promise now that it is integrated fully into the system.

The Nexus One OTA Update also includes an update to Google Maps which allow for several interesting functions and capacities to be formed for usage. The Google Maps 3.4 update will include access to favored locations on your phone via starred selections on the map. There will also be a capacity to search the history of places that the user has already searched so that information previously desired can be readily accessed once again. There is also a highly useful upgrade that will allow for viewing at night to be much easier due to a shift in the screen's illumination for better visual acuity.

Pinch-to-zoom capacity has been developed and will be integrated into this update as well allowing Google Phone users to finally enjoy the ability to zoom in on local area maps by pinching. This was a capacity other android phones have had for a while now, but Google had seemed uninterested in adding it in until now.

How Will the Update Be Delivered?

Google Announced that its Nexus One OTA update will be staggered in a manner similar to earlier types of updates for their services. This means that anyone that owns a Nexus One mobile phone will received a message soon that will allow them to download the update to their cell phone so that it will begin the automatic installation of the software upgrades. Once the software has downloaded and updated the existing specifications of the device each of the mentioned applications and changes will be immediately available for use.
