2010 is here and so is The Google Phone Company.
Just look at what is happening. Google buys companies all the time. They purchased ad servers like connect commerce to expand the advertising platform. They have also purchased Gizmo5 a VOIP company.
As the king of search leverages itself, it is putting the company in a position to change telephone use forever. Executives at the Google have hinted that the Voip will be integrated with Google Talk.
If you read the recent article at eWeek you might agree with us that the Voip and Talk services will be integrated in 2010.
These two statements from eWeek have made lots of eyes open and ears perk up.
"Google's Bradley Horowitz, vice president of product management at Google, said Google Voice and cloud computing will be huge plays for the search engine giant in 2010. Expect the Gizmo5 assets to bolster the Google Voice phone management application. Google has been toiling in the cloud computing market for a few years now, hosting its Google Apps collaboration programs for consumers and businesses. Google will be fending off rivals Microsoft, IBM and Cisco Systems for market share in hosted applications in 2010"
"What we're trying to do with telephony is give people a seamless experience that frees up their telephony communication from the silos where it's lived for the last decade. Voicemail, my contacts, all of those things have been segregated from the rest of my Web experience. We have big plans to do a better job.
Voice mail transcription, in box integration and threaded SMS are fantastic features, but we're really just scratching the surface. Gizmo5 gives us talent and talent technology. They have specific tech and skills in further integrating telephony with devices and desktop and Web-based computing. We want to make sure you're communication is available to you irrespective of where you are at, what device you have in your pocket, etc."
The topic of Voip over the Nexus One Phone has been circulating on the net since the G-Phone was first rumored.
What does all this mean to the end user? Well to just scratch the surface a user could use a WiFi Access Point to make phone calls for free. We are not sure just what path the integration could take, but it looks like it will be a real benefit to Google Phone users.
Why does Google want to get into the phone business many of you may ask. The answer is if you use G's free services then they get to serve you ad's. It's that simple. It's also no big deal that ads will appear on your cell phone. They already do. Google will just be able to change their marketing to target you. This is a benefit in our opinion. If your going to see ads anyway why not have some that interest you.
We will be watching this story closely. The January 5 press event at Google should reveal more details.
